Staff Sergeant and Crew Chief Virgil Jay Hinton, 63, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends at his daughters home in Meridian on April 26, 2022 at 11:20 a.m.. Virgil was a proud marine veteran who served for 15 years.
Virgil was born on April 15, 1959 in Sacramento, California to his parents Virgil and Viola Hinton, however, was raised in Boise, Idaho. When he was just 19, Virgil decided he wanted to join the Marine Corps. and was stationed at Tustin Air Station in Orange County, California. Virgil flew helicopters as well as worked on them.
Virgil spent time abroad in Japan where he served two tours. Before enlisting he met and fell in love with Deann Mills (Banks), who he married on October 20, 1979. Their daughter Shasta Jay Lee was born August 18, 1979. Virgil and Dee were stationed in the town of El Toro but later moved back to their home state of Idaho.
After moving to Boise, Jay started his own construction company J & T Builders. He then decided to attend college and become an electrician. He lived and worked in Oregon as a union electrician for the last 6 years.
When he wasn’t working, Virgil had a passion for flying and spending time with his family and friends. Virgil was predeceased by his father Virgil Hinton and mother Viola May Haas. He is survived by his daughter Shasta Jay Lee, grandchildren Dakota, Dylon, and McKynna Luper.
The family requests that flowers be sent to 3805 E Florence Dr. Meridian, ID 83642. Family would also like to give special thanks to St. Lukes Hospice staff for their help during the process. There will be a funeral service held at 10 o’clock a.m. Saturday May 7, 2022, at Dry Creek Cemetery 9600 Hill Rd Boise, ID 83714.
