Loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother, Verna Fay Moss Dearstyne, passed away Tuesday, February 14th, 2023, surrounded by loved ones. Born on March 1st 1934 to Rulon and Karine Moss, she was 88 years old at the time of her passing.
Verna was born in Iona, Idaho, in her Grandmother’s house, the 4th of 5 children. Her father worked for the government in farm labor camps and they pulled up roots as many as 3-4 times per year and moved from one side of the state to the other. She attended many different elementary schools and had numerous adventures with her brothers and sisters, Carroll, Lois, Melba and Don. When the war ended, they settled in Boise, ID, where she attended South Junior High School and graduated from Boise High School in 1953. Verna attended Ex-Cel-Cis Beauty School and Salon in Boise and graduated in 1956.
Verna was married to Mitchel Schmidt and had four children. Later she married Robert Taylor and they had two children. Later in life she married Paul Dearstyne.
Survived by her children, Lugene (Jim) Slaughter, Kenneth Schmidt, Keith (Janet) Schmidt, Robin Weedman, Tami (John) Newhouse and her sisters Lois (Marion) Carpender and Melba Beck.
Proceeded in death by her sons Kent Schmidt, Sam Taylor, son-in-law Mike Weedman, parents Rulon and Karine Moss and her brother’s Carroll (Amy) Moss and Don (Mary Alice) Moss.
Verna has 13 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren with 1 on the way and many nieces and nephews she loved very much.
The family would like to thank Enhabit Home Health and Hospice, especially Danielle, Emily and Troy for their professional and dignified care of our mother.
Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023, at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel. Viewing 9:30am-11:00am, with services starting at 11:00am, graveside services immediately following at Dry Creek Cemetery.
