Sara "Sally" Bishop

Sara “Sally” Bishop – Nov. 1, 1938 – Dec. 5, 2021

Sally was called home into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Dec. 5, 2021 while living at Veranda Senior Living in Meridian, Idaho.

Sara Ann “ Sally” March Bishop was born November 1, 1938 in Boise Idaho at St. Luke’s Hospital. She was one of many cesarean deliveries performed by Dr. Pittenger, the well known Doctor of the day. As soon as her mother was able to travel she and her parents Walter and Dorothy March took her to Idaho City in a Model A Ford Pickup, her home for the near future to join her brother Roger who was 10 years her senior. Life in Idaho City was quiet with pleasant sunny days in the summer and snow up to the eaves of the house in the winter. Sally went to the movies in Idaho City once a month. They were silent movies but one of the ladies who lived there played the piano. The price to get in was 10 cents.

In 1942 the March family moved to Boise. Sally‘s brother needed to go to the 9th grade and there was no schooling provided beyond the 8th grade in Idaho City. The year 1946 brought school to Sally as she entered 1st grade at Franklin School, which was an independent school offering grades 1 through 12 at that time. Her 7th – 9th grade were at South Junior High, 10th grade was at the opening of the brand new West Junior High where she met and fell in love with her sweetheart Jim Bishop. Junior and Senior years were at Boise High where her romance with Jim flourished and she enjoyed ROTC rifle team while Jim provided his photography skills with the ROTC and the yearbook staff for the “Courier”. Sally served as Queen of Job’s Daughters Bethel #48. In her early years Sally attended youth camps at Pilgrim Cove Church Camp in McCall. It was at this camp where she accepted Christ as her Savior which started a long life loving and serving her Lord. Music was a big part of her Christian life and during her long struggle with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease it was the recall of the Christian music and the old gospel songs that brightened her day most of all. In 1956 Jim and Sally both graduated from Boise High and Sally went to work full-time. Jim entered BJC and graduated in 1958. Jim and Sally married in November 1957 and started a family shortly after. Karla was born in 1958, Lori in 1959, Roger in 1962 and Kenny in 1964. While still young, all the kids learned to ski at Bogus Basin as they graduated out of the nursery. They all were active in the Boise Y.M.C.A. swim and dive team. Sally became a “swim team mom” and spent several years driving them to and from early morning practice before school and swim meets throughout Idaho and neighboring states. At the meets, she enjoyed volunteering to work for the meet officials as a lane timer and technical judge. In those days the job was all done manually and needed keen eyes and ears as well as a quick finger on the stopwatch.

Sally worked for Audio Hearing Aid Center as a Hearing Aid Dispenser for 25 years retiring in 2000. In 1990 Jim and Sally began building a log cabin at Cascade which was an ongoing project. They loved spending time there. Sally was active in the Treasure Valley Fitness Walkers Club as well as Jim. They won many awards over the years. They did many 10k, ½ marathons running and race walking, including the grueling Robie Creek race which she finished 20 times. In later years Jim and Sally purchased a Model A Ford Pick up and joined the Treasure Valley Model A Club. They had many fun tours with the club. Sally served one term as secretary. Jim and Sally were founding members of Heritage Bible Church 18 years ago and Sally loved singing in the choir.

Sally and Jim enjoyed chasing the elusive elk, fishing for steelhead and just climbing the mountain for the fun of it, right here in Idaho.

Sally is survived by her loving husband Jim of 64 years, one daughter Lori West and her husband Greg, one son Roger Bishop and his wife Teri. Two grandsons, Chris West (Hailey) and Ben West (Tori), Two granddaughters Shaddai Tirrell (Matt) and Tamar Bishop (Miller) and one great granddaughter , Olivia Tirrell and one great grandson Alex Tirrell. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Roger, a daughter Karla Rae, a son Kenneth Lynn and a grandson Jason West.

Sally’s family would especially like to Thank all the extra special caregivers and administrative staff at Veranda (Memory Care) for the loving care that was shown to “Sara” for the last three years. In her final year one of her greatest delights was the weekly devotional and sing alongs with the older gospel songs.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at Heritage Bible Church, 7071 Emerald St, Boise, ID 83704. A viewing/visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service and burial at Dry Creek Cemetery will follow the service and fellowship meal.
