Sara L. Ewing

Sara L. Ewing

Sara L. Ewing peacefully passed away on March 13, 2022.

Sara was born Friday, December 13, 1929 in Pocatello, Idaho, the only child of Georgia Worley Hiner and Frank A. Hiner. She moved to Boise with her parents and graduated from Boise High School in 1948. Sara loved all sports and was on the tumbling team. She was a proud Boise Brave and worked on the class reunion committee until her death.

On November 3, 1948, Sara married Ray W. Ewing. They had three children: John, Sandy, and Susan. In 1955, they built a new house in Meridian and started a successful plastering and stucco business, where she did the bookkeeping. While the kids were growing up, Sara was active in their school and served as a Girl Scout troop organizer for 14 years. She was always there for whatever her kids were doing. In the late 1960s, Ray and Sara, along with their son John, started a general contracting business, The Ewing Company.

Sara was an active member of the Democratic party in the 1960’s. She worked on the campaigns for Frank Church, Cecil Andrus, and John Evans. Additionally, she was on the State Central Committee as precinct committee woman from Ada County.

She promised Ray that if Idaho ever elected a Democratic governor, she would quit politics and work for money. So, when Cecil Andrus was elected governor in 1970, Sara became a realtor. She worked for 20 years as the broker and owner of R.S. Realty. After Ray died on July 12, 1990, Sara retired from real estate but went on to finish 12 years on the Board of Directors for Idaho Housing and Financing.

While Sara wished Ray had lived longer, she filled the next 32 years of her life with traveling, dancing, playing cards, watching baseball, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of her favorite places to be was at her family cabin on Lake Cascade, where she held many late-night pinochle tournaments. She achieved her goal of teaching all of her grandchildren how to play, and she had moved on to teaching her great-grandchildren.

Sara moved into Touchmark six years ago and made many dear friends and got to play bridge, pinochle, and ping pong every week.

Sara was loved by all who knew her and she will be dearly missed.

Sara is survived by her children, John Ewing (Sherrie), Sandy Crawford (Dan), Susan Lacy (Craig); her grandchildren, Tuck Ewing (Elena), Sara Browning (Jake), Brent Lacy (Mindi), Ben Ewing (Erica), Dan R. Crawford (Colleen Johnson), Christa Emery (Jake), Stacy Lacy (Kleber Almeida), Lori Munk (Drew), and Ryan Beard; and her great-grandchildren, Julia Ewing, Tucker Ewing, Kayla Browning, Mikey Ewing, Brandon Lacy, Forest Ewing, Cody Browning, Emily Lacy, Lucas Ewing, Brady Lacy, Macy Emery, Ella Emery, Presley Ewing, Lola Almeida, Maggie Munk, and Cami Munk. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews whom she loved. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
