Roseanna Emma Maggard

August 29, 1932 — January 16, 2026

Boise

Roseanna Emma Maggard of Boise, Idaho went to be with the love of her life, Jesus Christ, Friday night, January 16th, 2026. She was 93 years old.

Roseanna was born August 29, 1932, in The Bronx, New York, to John C. Hobin, Sr. and Margaret M. (Chippa) Hobin. She had one brother, also named John. She often told colorful of stories of growing up in the Bronx, having an ice box instead of a refrigerator, living in a fifth-floor apartment, and running up and down five flights of stairs several times a day, and spending summers on the Jersey Shore. She married her husband, Clifford L. Maggard, who she later described to her grandchildren as her “Superman,” on February 17th, 1951, in Aiken, SC, and they were married 55 years before he went home to be with the Lord. Together they raised 6 children: Clifford J., Margaret, Susan, William, John and Jacqueline, and a Grand-daughter Roseanna Marie, but the number of people who came to know them as mom and dad was far greater. No one was ever considered an in-law, once you were family, you were family, and that family extended far beyond blood relation.

Roseanna loved her family, and showed it by being an excellent homemaker. She kept a clean and organized house, was a great cook and baker, and always worked hard to make Holidays special. She always worked to give her children the very best that she could, even if it meant taking on a part-time job to pay for it.

Roseanna received Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit in the Catholic Church in 1978, at which time she declared, “I finally met the Perfect Man!” From that time, she had one mission, to serve the Lord, and tell the world about the Perfect Man she had found. She became an altar worker and a lay minister, and ministered communion during mass in the Catholic Church in Alamosa, Colorado. She and her husband, Clifford, also ministered communion in the hospital. She loved telling the teenagers at the movie theater she and Clifford managed all about Jesus, and led many to receive Jesus as their Savior, including many of her own children.

Roseanna was a courageous woman, leaving the Bronx to live with her husband in Georgia, Colorado and Arizona. Moving from the Big City, Roseanna adapted to living in the small mountain town of Alamosa, CO, with a population of only 5300 people. She hunted, fished and camped with her husband in the early years of their marriage. She loved traveling around the Western United States with her children and a pop-up tent trailer, visiting the Grand Canyon, the Redwoods, Mount Rushmore, Yellowstone, Disneyland and eventually Hawaii with her husband. She thoroughly enjoyed seeing all there was to see. In May of 1981, Roseanna moved to Boise, Idaho, when Clifford transferred with Frontier Airlines. She packed up and moved having never seen or visited Boise. It was an adjustment, but they truly enjoyed their new life in Boise, roller skating in the parks and floating the Boise River. Roseanna and Clifford loved to explore, often joining their family on camping trips and making trips to Oregon Coast.

From the time she received Jesus, Roseanna always desired to serve the Lord and grow in His ways. She attended Central Assembly, and attended every class and Bible Study she could, especially those taught by Pastors Bruce and Betty Olsen, and volunteered at the church’s food pantry, the Love Center. In 1992, Roseanna and Clifford began attending the Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Boise and were baptized in the Boise River. They attended the Vineyard’s School of Ministry, served at the Vineyard’s coffee bar, co-led a Care Group, and were involved in outreaches to the homeless.

Roseanna’s desire was always to serve, or in her words, “to help,” wherever and however she could. She led Cub Scouts, when her son John was in Cub Scouts, and she helped with Boy Scouts for her son, Bill. She and her husband did Sidewalk Celebration, a sidewalk outreach to share the gospel with neighborhood children, alongside their daughter and son, Jacque and Tim and family. After Clifford went to be with the Lord, Roseanna served as a volunteer for Legacy Hospice, where she served until 2015. She helped to renovate rooms at the Boise Rescue mission, and she taught Senior Fit and Fall Classes for many years. She always supported missionaries, and she gave to nearly every charitable cause she heard about.

Up until her very last days, Roseanna loved nothing more than to be out and about “among the people” (hoping to tell one more person about Jesus), and to spend time surrounded by her family, especially her three generations of grandchildren. On the day she passed, she spent much of the day surrounded by family, with five generations represented, and over 17 people in the room.

Roseanna’s life can truly be described in one word, fruitful, and the full impact of her life is yet to be realized.

Roseanna was preceded in death by her sister-in-law Myrna Pratt, her parents, John and Margaret Hobin, her granddaughter, Shannon Maggard, her daughter-in-law, Karen Maggard, her sister-in-law Winifred Hobin, her husband, Clifford Maggard, her sister-in-law, Lois Jaidinger, her brother, John Hobin, Jr., her brother-in law, David Toby Maggard, and her nephew, Steven Hobin.
