Robert E. “Bob” Wood, 84, of Boise, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, died Friday, June 10, 2016 in a Boise care center.
Bob was born April 23, 1932, in Eagle Point, OR, to John T. and Velma Wood. At the age of 7, his family moved to Marsing, Idaho to farm. He graduated from Marsing High School in 1950 and attended Boise Junior College prior to enlisting in the Navy near the end of the Korean War.
Bob met Helen Hall at Boise Junior College before joining the Navy and they were married in 1954. They first lived at several Navy bases in California, including the Naval Ordnance Testing Base in Ridgecrest, CA; where their son Tom was born. They returned to Boise after Bob was discharged from the Navy in 1956, where they lived for more than 50 years and their daughters Colleen and Dianne were born. They also enjoyed 20 wonderful years in retirement splitting their time between Boise, Cascade, and Desert Center, California. Bob worked as a salesman for several companies over the years, Idaho Fish and Poultry, Kiskey Foods, and Action Trailer Supply to name few.
Bob’s greatest pleasures were spending time with family and friends. He especially enjoyed racing his Catalina 22 with the Southern Idaho Sailing Association. Bob, with Helen and other family members and friends, competed in 5 Catalina 22 National Regatta around the US. Bob and family were especially proud of their 1st place finish in the 1990 Idaho Centennial Region 9 Regatta in Cascade, ID. Bob also enjoyed building and could be found in the garage, building things in his free time. He would build nearly anything, from tree houses, small sail boats, and cabinets; to decks, pergolas, and carport ports.
Bob is survived by his wife Helen, son Thomas H Wood, wife JoAnne of Middleton, and granddaughters Erica Garrett and Hailey Bodle; daughter Colleen M Ramsey, husband Jeff of Boise; daughter Dianne E Wing, husband Mike of Portland, OR and granddaughters Sarah Tull and Kendal Wing; and 6 great-grandchildren. Bob is also survived by his sister-in-law Jane Wood of Helena, MT, as well as many nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, sister Florence Marie Haywood, husband George and nephew Robert; brother Marvin Wood, wife Blanche; brother Ted Wood and niece Pamela.
A private service for family will be held Friday, July 8th at 3 PM at the Idaho Veteran’s Cemetery. A memorial and celebration of Bob’s life will be held for Family and Friends on Saturday July 9th, 1 PM at the Ram Stonehouse, 709 E Park Blvd., Boise. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to a favorite charity.
