Richard "Dick" Snyder was born at home during a snow storm on December 29, 1932 in
Greensburg, PA to Isabel Rutherford Snyder and Walter Hough Snyder. The family moved to Glassport, PA where he attended grade school and high school playing trumpet in the high school band. Dick graduated from Penn State in 1954 with a degree in Petroleum Engineering. He was a member of TKE social fraternity and Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity.
He spent the next three years in the United States Navy, serving as Chief Engineer on the destroyer Charles J. Badger DD-657 and rose to rank of Lieutenant.
After the Navy he began a 30-year career in the oil and gas industry living in Venezuela with his then family for a period of time before returning to the U.S for additional schooling, and graduated from Texas A & M with a Master’s degree. He worked with various oil firms in Pittsburgh and Houston including president of his own consulting firm before retiring from the oil industry. He also spent twenty years as a volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.
He worked as Assistant Professor for Information Technology with Texas A&M Extension Services when he retired and moved to Ocala, Florida.
At a high school reunion he became reacquainted with Nina Seifried Israel, who became his wife of 22 years. After they were married in 2003, they lived in Albuquerque, NM for ten years before moving to Boise. Dick loved to travel and loved live jazz all his life. And he never missed his Silver Sneakers Class.
Dick passed on October 25, 2025, leaving behind his wife Nina; a daughter, Nache Snyder-Mace (Clark); a son, R. David Snyder; Two Granddaughters, Nache-Marie McCall (Justin); Caroline Ferguson (JB); One Great Grandson, Tripp Ferguson, One Great Granddaughter, Lila Ferguson: Sister-in-Law Judith Snyder (Karl, brother deceased) & many other relatives.
Cremation services were held in Boise. Final committal, with Military Honors, will be held at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. TX.
