Richard Alden Albertson, age 80, died May 24, 2026. Cremation will be done at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Home and the urn placed in the Morris Hill Cemetery with his loving partner, Roberta (Bobbie) Phillips.

Richard was born on April 12, 1946, in Decorah, Iowa. He was the eldest son of Alden and Doris Albertson, who moved to Idaho when Richard was 2 years old. Richard originally lived in Gooding where his dad ran the Studebaker dealership. In 1949, the family moved to Wendell and in 1952 to Mountain Home where Richard attended first and second grades. In 1954 the family moved to Boise where Richard attended Jefferson Campus, East Jr. High, North Jr. High, Boise High, and then Boise State.

During enrollment at Boise High School, he excelled as a distance runner. In November 1963, while driving with his coach, Pat Bieter of Boise High School, and two other runners on their way to a track meet in Moscow, Idaho, the car struck a herd of cows near Cascade, Idaho. Richard was severely injured and was not expected to live. All of the others walked away from the accident. Richard was first taken to Cascade Hospital for preliminary stitching and was then taken by ambulance to St. Alphonsus Hospital in Boise where he was in a coma for three weeks. As a result of the accident, Richard experienced health challenges throughout his life.

During high school and while attending Boise State, Richard delivered the Statesman newspaper to approximately 100 homes for around 7 years. While attending college, he worked for Film Service. After graduating from Boise State in 1971 with a degree in Business, he trained and later franchised the Seven-Eleven Food Store at Curtis and Overland which he ran for 16 years. In December 1986, he was diagnosed with cancer resulting in the loss of his Seven-Eleven franchise. In March of 1988 he went to work for Micron Technology and was in the production support group until his retirement in 2009. Richard met Bobbie Phillips in 1990 and they enjoyed life together from the moment they met.

Richard loved his family and friends, and especially Bobbie. He started collecting stamps and coins in his younger years and enjoyed the hobby his entire life. After retirement, he enjoyed traveling annually to South Padre Island and other trips around the world with Bobbie, especially enjoying ocean cruises. Richard was a joy to all who knew him at home and during his travels.

Survivors include his brother Mark Albertson (Tammy) and their son Austin of Petaluma, California; Bobbie’s children Cherie Phillips and Jerry Wilson of Boise; and Richard’s children Richard Vincins; Randy Albertson; Laura Albertson Masonholder; Carri Albertson Hessman; Ryan Albertson; and Christopher Albertson.

Richard was preceded in death by the love of his life, Bobbie Phillips, his brother Randi, and his parents.
