Patsy Viola Joyce Givens Rigdon


Patsy was born to immigrant parents, mother Mamie Isackson, Norwegian, Father Everett Givens, English/Canadian. She was born in Bozeman, Montana, Dec. 7, 1931. Patsy was the youngest of 5, 3 girls and 2 boys. By all accounts she was the darling of the family.

At the age of 5, her father died in the Veterans hospital in Boise. Both her parents had become naturalized U.S. Citizens after her father had fought for our country in World War I. It was a touch life for her mother and the 5 children.

At a young age, Patsy got the gift of a typewriter; which turned out to be a blessing in her life.She taught herself to type and became a studious and determined student. Patsy graduated from Middleton High School. She loved school and played on the girls’ basketball team.At a young age, she married Joseph May.  July 12, 1949, they welcomed twins, Dale & Gale.Oct. 28, 1951, they completed their family with the birth of Walter Reid. The family moved to Utah where they resided for many years.

In 1956, Patsy joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many positions in the church; Gospel doctrine teacher, primary president, Relief Society president, Ministering sister, and weekly temple attendance.

Patsy enjoyed the medical profession, working as a receptionist for an ear, nose, and throat specialist.

She desired to advance her skills; taking classes at Weber State College to enhance her career.Patsy worked for several years for Tanner Memorial Clinic. She handled all of the insurance. Medical transcription was a valuable asset.Patsy worked for the Union Pacific Railroad Clinic for nearly 30 years.

Patsy was a member of the Utah Chapter of the American Medical Assistance Association. She served as president of the Utah Chapter, attending meetings throughout the state. Patsy became the National president of the A.M.A.A., traveling to meetings in New York City, the Bahamas, and other exciting locations. Patsy had the honor of serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Salt Lake City at the Family History Center.

Patsy had 8 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Patsy married Eugene Rigdon, Jan. 8th, 1981. Eugene had 4 children, Gerry, Bob, Richard, and Dee Rigdon. Eugene had 7 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren.Patsy and Eugene resided in Lake Side, Montana, where they spent many beautiful retirement years, fishing, boating, and enjoying wonderful Flat Head Lake.

Family reunions were held at their lakeside home.

Gene’s health was failing and they wanted to live closer to family. They built a home in Caldwell, Idaho. After Gene’s passing, Patsy moved to Boise, Idaho.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 10 a.m. at Star Cemetery, in Star, Idaho.

The Centennial L.D.S. Ward will provide a luncheon – 5050 Locust Grove Rd. The family would appreciate your attendance.

Patsy’s ward family have been a great treasure in her life.
