Myron A. Cordum

Myron A. Cordum, born March 4, 1931, in Bristow, Oklahoma, passed away in Boise, Idaho on December 30, 2015. Myron was the first of 3 children born to Eulah and Myron Abe Cordum. As a boy, Myron lived in several different towns in Oklahoma as his father followed job opportunities in the Oklahoma “Oil Patch.” Myron graduated from Davenport High School in 1949. He attended Northeastern Oklahoma Junior College on a football scholarship and went on to play football at Central State College where he graduated. Myron graduated from the University of Oklahoma Medical School in 1962. During his time in college, Myron married his beloved, Joyce, on May 22, 1951. Their marriage of 62 years was a testament to the bond they had and served as an inspiration to family and friends alike.

After graduating from college, Myron joined the Army and completed Officer Candidate School. He served a 3 year tour of duty as a First Lieutenant and was stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Although his time in the Army was a short 3 years, it was an important and proud part of his life. After retirement, he reconnected with many of his Army buddies and attended several reunions.

As a Family Practitioner, Myron made a positive impact in the lives of many patients. He truly loved being a doctor and worked very hard to do the best for those he served. In his free time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. Some of his fondest memories are of hunting with his son, Nic, and fishing at Lake Eufaula and on the Popo Agie River in Wyoming with his kids and dear wife, Joyce. He also took up oil painting and spent many hours creating landscape and wild life scenes. Myron was at times a quiet and introspective man and always supportive of his wife, children and grandchildren in their many pursuits. He always found the time to attend his children’s many events, from dance and music recitals, to the hundreds of sports activities.

Myron is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce. He is survived by his children: Nic R. Cordum (Stephanie)of Boise, Idaho, Tracy L. Hahnle (Chris)of Sanger , Texas and Myrna K Swarsbrook (Jack)of Prescott, Arizona; his sister, Mary Applegate of Ft. Mills, South Carolina: and his brother, Jim Cordum of Lewisburg,Tennessee. Myron was the very proud grandfather of Jacob Tyler Jones, Russell Christian Cordum, Jesse Gabriel Cordum and Samantha Nicole Cordum. Joyce and Myron lived in Oklahoma City and Yukon, Oklahoma for most of their married lives until a move to Boise, Idaho 2 years ago. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to the Fisher House Foundation or the military charity of your choice.
