Mary Michelle Baker Smith, 75, of Meridian, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Meridian, ID on August 15, 2025.

She was born on March 20, 1950, to Robert C. Baker and Mary A. Stokes Baker. She graduated from Borah High School in 1968 and married her high school sweetheart, David A. Smith, on June 5, 1971. They had a daughter, Kimberly M. Smith Campbell, in March of 1977. Michelle started working for Idaho Power at the age of 19 as a Purchasing Agent, then after 6 years, transferred to the accounting department as an Accounts Payable Specialist. She retired from Idaho Power after 33 years of service. She worked in the Albertson’s general office for 6 months. She then worked for Commercial Tire general office for 12 years as an Accounts Payable Clerk before fully retiring.

After high school, Michelle took one year of accounting at Boise College, later returning to Boise State University in the early 1990s to complete her degree in Internal Audit Accounting. She then shifted her path towards science, earning a degree in Health Information Management. She was a few classes away from earning an Environmental Science degree before leaving Boise State.

Michelle started playing the flute and piccolo in 5th grade and continued through her first year of college. After a few years, she picked up her love for music by joining the Boise State Community Band in 2015. After a couple of years there, she left and joined the Capital City Mulligan Band, followed by the Caldwell Centennial Band, Capital City Flute Club (Contrabass Flute, Alto Bass Flute), and Nampa Flute Choir. She loved to travel extensively throughout the United States for various flute conventions.

Michelle was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She was an active member of Adah Chapter #8 (Boise), Mizpah Chapter #6 (Horseshoe Bend), and Lorraine Chapter #20 (Payette). She served several terms as Worthy Matron in Adah #8 and Mizpah #6. She had the honor of serving the Grand Chapter as Grand Electa in 2023-2024. She loved traveling the state of Idaho for the official visitations of the Grand Chapter, as well as Oregon, Washington, Nevada, Utah, and Rhode Island for their Grand Chapters with her husband. While she was Worthy Matron of Mizpah #6, she had the pleasure of initiating her daughter, Kim, 30 years ago. On February 3, 2024, she had the greatest honor to initiate her granddaughter Nicole into Adah #8.

She was also a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, where she served a term as the High Priestess.

She was also a member of the Daughters of the Nile, Iras Temple #40 in Boise, Idaho.

In her free time, she enjoyed spending time at the Boise Valley Hi-De-Ho Sports Trailer Club in Garden Valley, ID. She also liked to crochet, sew, do counted cross-stitch, play puzzle games, and play Farkle with her family. She also loved to make her family famous waffles in which none of her family has been able to master.

Michelle is survived by her husband, David A. Smith, daughter, Kimberly M. Campbell, grandchildren, Nicole and Arees Campbell, and brother Robert M. Baker. She was preceded in death by her parents.
