Mariel Fritschle joined her husband of more than 77 years in the arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 4, 2025 at the age of 98
Mariel was born February 22, 1927 to Herbert R and Irene (Hulbert) Bevington in Rapid City, SD. In 1929 Herb and Irene packed their three children (Cloris, LaRue and Mariel) along with all of their belongings into a Model T, and moved to Boise, ID. Boise quickly became her hometown, and Mariel graduated from Boise High in 1944. She attended Northwest Christian College and Boise Junior College before marrying her high school sweetheart, Lloyd Fritschle, on June 21, 1946.
Mariel attempted to be a mostly stay at home wife and mother while her children were young; however, she could often be found helping out at her father’s store (Bevington’s Floor Covering), and taking classes at Boise Junior College to earn her teaching credentials.
Mariel’s career in education began in the fall of 1962 as a first-grade teacher at Boise’s Pierce Park School. After teaching ten years in the Boise School District, Lloyd and Mariel moved to Nampa. She resumed her education career, now with the Nampa School District, where she was a classroom teacher, intern leader, and principal.
After nine years in Nampa, Lloyd and Mariel moved to Lewiston, ID, where she once again established herself as a classroom teacher and a GT (gifted and talented) facilitator. They moved back to Boise in 1984, and Mariel returned to working for the Boise School District, this time in multiple capacities, from classroom teacher to GT facilitator to administrator.
Mariel retired in the spring of 1989, and joined Lloyd as a reservist for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to work at disaster assistance centers which were set up in response to natural disasters. In addition to working for FEMA, they traveled extensively with friends and family. Lloyd and Mariel moved back to Nampa in 2020 when they sold their home in Boise.
Mariel was a long-time member of the Boise First Chirstian Church, which became University Christian Church in the 1980s, and is now Parkview Christian Church.
Mariel is survived by her older sister Cloris Knox, her daughter Cathy (Jerry) Hopper, her son Carter (Nanci) Fritschle, and grandchildren Craig Hopper (Heidi Gudmundsen), Randy (Christina) Hopper, Shari Hopper and Matthew (Brittany) Henman. Greatgrandchildren Nato, Talon, Rhianna, Anja, Logan, and great-great-granddaughter Aspen.
Mariel was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd, her brother LaRue Bevington and her younger sister Helen Bevington.
The family would like to thank Harrison’s Hope Hospice for their compassion, support, and care.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Avenue, Boise, ID.
