Maria Georgilakis

May 14, 1944 — October 2, 2025

Boise

Maria Georgilakis, a cherished wife, devoted mother, and pillar of her community, passed away on October 2, 2025, surrounded by the love that defined her life. She is survived by her beloved husband, Annivas Georgilakis, her sons, Constantine “Gus” Georgilakis and George Georgilakis (Natalie), two grandchildren, Sophia and Nicholas, her twin sister, Katina Zarkadas (George), and many beloved nieces and nephews.

Maria was born on May 14th, 1944 to Mihail Papadakis and Hrisis Klapakis in the small village of Embrosneros on the island of Crete, Greece. She married Annivas on April 28, 1968. Maria and Annivas spent 57 years of marriage as a true partnership, living in Germany and eventually moving to New York in 1968. In 1989, Annivas and Maria moved their family to Boise, Idaho where she remained for the rest of her life. She loved the life she built with family and friends in Boise.

Maria’s life was a beautiful testament to love, patience, and generosity. Her home was a sanctuary of warmth, where family and friends gathered to share stories, laughter, and the comfort of her unforgettable home-cooked meals. She had a gift for nurturing others, and her kitchen was always open to anyone in need of nourishment—both physical and emotional. A number of her Greek recipes are a staple of Romios, the restaurant owned by her son, Gus.

Her love for nature was evident in the basil plants and flowers that graced the front of her home, a symbol of her care and the simple joys she found in everyday life. Maria’s presence in the community was marked by kindness and quiet strength, always ready to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. She had the ability to make everyone she met feel special and important.

She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, the meals she taught them to make, and the love she so freely gave.
