Mac’s life was full of opportunities and challenges and he learned from all of them. Mac was born in El Centro, Calif. on June 4, 1936 to Oliver Adolph and Margaret Mary Pruett McGinley. Sister Camille was born May 28, 1942. Oliver was born in Boise and Margaret was born in Central Point, OR. Oliver went from being a fruit packer to electrician to an undground miner and managed the developement of an underground mine in South Korea. Being a supportive wife, Margaret followed Oliver which was primarily in remote towns like Atlanta, ID; Stibnite, ID; and Patterson, ID near Salmon, ID. He learned early to hunt and fish and there wasn’t a fish or animal that was safe. His parents moved back to Stibnite where there was no high school; consequently, Mac had to live in McCall with an aunt to attend high school and went to the 11th grade at New Meadows, ID. His parents moved to Boise and Mac attended and graduated from Boise High School in 1954. There he met Faun Bassett and they were married Oct. 15, 1954. They were married 25 years and 5 children were born to them: Debra Burns, Steven McGinley, Carrie McGinley, Lori Rosenthal and Kevin McGinley.

Mac joined the US Air Force on Oct. 25, 1954. He was stationed in Parks AFB, Pleasanton, CA.where he learned data processing. He was then transferred to Nellis AFB, Nevada; Agentia Naval Air Station in Newfoundland; Biggs AFB in El Paso, TX; Langley AFB (Headquarters TAC) in Hampton, VA; and Elemendorf AFB, Anchorage,

Alaska where he was awarded the highest recognition of a Meritorious Service Award & received a Commendation Medal. Mac’s formal education consisted of IBM data processing training, supervisory training and system management courses at the University of Virginia and College of William and Mary. He got his private pilot’s license.

Also in Alaska, Mac coached Pop Warner football where his son Steve played and Mac received an Outstanding Coach Award. Then Mac requested a transfer to Warren AFB, Cheyenne, WY and retired from there in 1974. The family then moved to Terrace Lakes Golf Course, Garden Valley, ID where he eventually became Golf Course Manager. He was instrumental in the design and development of the back 9 golf course. Mac and Faun divorced in 1980 and he moved to Nampa to live with his father for a brief time.

Later that year he met Kay McGinley who came to the Meridian Races with her son Ronnie. Their meeting is a story by itself with the coincidences and was meant to be. Kay was divorced and had 2 sons: Doug White (20) and Ronnie (10) . Mac and Kay were married in Reno, NV on March 21, 1981, and Mac moved to Boise to live with Kay and Ronnie in Boise. Mac was hired by Vocational Rehabilation in September 1981, eventually becoming the Human Resource Manager. During this time Mac was supportive of Ronnie in his sports of football, baseball, basketball, and wrestling.

Mac and Kay then got into the rental business doing all the work on nights and weekends. They built their first home together in Boise. Unfortunately, his son Steve passed in 1991 due to an industrial accident. This was devastating to Mac and Kay.

Mac and Kay got into camping, trail riding and boating with Mac’s sister and brother-in-law Camille and John Beaubien. This eventually led to building a cabin in 1990 at Smith’s Ferry, Idaho where many family and friends gathered and enjoyed their time there either trail riding or snowmobiling...or just relaxing. It also was closer to family who lived in Cascade which enabled Mac and Kay to have a closer relation with Lori Rosenthal and Carrie McGinley and their families which brought great pleasure. Many memorable occasions with family and friends were enjoyed at the cabin.

While at Smith’s Ferry, Mac was elected HOA President. Mac also encouraged Kay’s brother Ron Moran to get a 4-Wheeler to ride the trails. Ron was a paraplegic from a 1957 car accident so this opened up a whole new world for Ron. Mac and Ron put many miles on the ATV’s and snowmobiles that Mac modified for him. Mac and Helen Prescott (Kay’s mother) had a special relationship and he got her to drive her own snowmobile in her 80’s. She loved him so much, and so did Ron. Mac enriched both of their lives immensly. When Kay retired in 1999, they decided to move to Smith’s Ferry full time. They enjoyed their time there greatly.

Kay encouraged Mac to get a hobby so he bought a 1973 Dodge Challenger from Kay’s nephew Brian Hefner. Mac turned the Challenger into a Show Car with the help of Kay’s nephew Jeremy Hefner who did the bodywork and paint. Mac and Kay joined the High Country Cruisers and enjoyed many friendships and activities with the club.

In 2002, Mac and Kay decided they should consider moving back to the valley as the winter months and getting firewood were getting more difficult and aging family members may need more help. Real estate hadn’t sold well but the cabin sold in 3 months. So a whole new chapter. Mac and Kay moved to Nampa. They also became members of Mopars Unlimited and enjoyed the friends and activities through the club.

Mac and Kay took the Challenger to Las Vegas with the Mopar Club where the Challenger won several awards and was featured in Mopar Muscle and Mopar Action magazines. Linda and Gene Hefner encouraged Mac and Kay to buy a Corvette and join the Fun Run Bunch and they had many fun times with this and the other car clubs.

Another memorable event was a 19-day tour of England, Scotland and Wales. They also saw the town of Yapton where Mac’s ancestors lived, even meeting a lady who may be related. Another memorable occasion was taking Debby, Lori and John, and Kevin to Hawaii, Mac and Kay’s favorite vacation spot. Also, Mac and Kay enjoyed many wonderful vacations with Kay’s sister Doris and Larry Wallace. Several McGinley family reunions have been enjoyed at Garden Valley, ID, Joseph, Oregon and Meridian, ID.

Mac is survived by his wife of 45 years J. Kay McGinley; children Debra Burns and husband Scott Logan, Carrie McGinley, Lori and John Rosenthal, Kevin McGinley and fiance Debby Lesh-Gaustad, and Kay’s sons Doug and Ron White. Mac was preceded in death by son Steven Louis McGinley, grandsons Stevan Roger Sandoval and Michael Louis Sandoval, and sister Camille Beaubien. He has 22 great-grandchilden, 5 bonus great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchilden who have enriched his life. Mac also has a large family from Kay’s side of the family whom Mac has interacted with over the last 45 years. Mac’s 89 years have been full and rewarding. He’s a man of strong character and his memory will live on in the hearts of many who have known him. He is grateful to all of you who have made his life so enjoyable.
