Lucille Kassis, longtime Boise resident, died November 22, 2023 of natural causes. Lucille was born on June 14, 1927 in Weiser, Idaho, to parents Steve and Harriette Cooper. Lucille and her twin sister Florence (D) attended school in Weiser graduating in 1945. They then attended Oregon State for a year before transferring to the University of Idaho and graduating with a BS Degree in 1949. She moved to Boise in 1949 and began her career with the Veterans Administration Regional Office. She married John Kassis in 1955. They had three sons, Bill Kassis, Tom Kassis (Jennifer) and Jim Kassis. She had six grandchildren, Amy Kassis of Boise, Melanie, Olivia (Cameron), John, and Emily of Canada, and Leo of California; and two great grandchildren, Colin and Ivie of Canada. Lucille was a stay at home mother while the children were growing up. She was active in the Franklin Grade School PTA, Cub Scouts and was the school librarian for several years. She kept her family happy with her wonderful chocolate chip cookies.
She was a founding member of St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church in Boise. She was active in the choir and was also the assistant organist. She was a member of the local chapter of the Philoptachos Society as well as a long-time member of the Daughters of Penelope Chapter serving on the local and district level. She was very active in the Greek Food Festival in baking wonderful pastries. One of her recipes is still used today.
She is survived by her sons, daughter-in-law, grand and great grandchildren and several nieces and a nephew. Her husband, John preceded her in death as well as her twin sister, Florence and parents Steve and Harriette Cooper.
Prayer service will be held at Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel on Monday December 4, at 7 p.m. and funeral services will follow on Tuesday December 5, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church, 2618 W. Bannock St. Boise, Interment will follow at Morris Hill Cemetery.
