Loyd Ralph Englehorn

Loyd Ralph Englehorn, 77, died on February 4, 2015 of esophageal/liver cancer. He passed away at home surrounded by his family. Loyd was born on August 2, 1937 in Caldwell, Idaho to Ralph “Lefty” and Ruth Englehorn. He attended Caldwell schools and graduated from Caldwell High School in 1955. He attended College of Idaho before enlisting in the Idaho 116th Quartermaster National Guard. In January, 1957 he transferred military affiliation to the United States Navy, graduating from basic training and Engineman’s School with honors. He was assigned active duty and stationed on the USS Kearsarge out of Long Beach, California. He was honorably discharged in January, 1961. On June 10, 1961 he married Janis Shepherd and they settled in Boise, Idaho.

He was employed by many companies over the years, mostly in the heavy duty trucking business: International Harvester Company, Custom Fabricating Company, Garrett Freightlines, Dennis Dillon, Idaho Great Basin Trucks and Northwest Equipment Sales, retiring on 11/7/12.

Loyd enjoyed snowmobiling, shooting targets, fishing and making bird houses. He was “Mr. Fix-It Man” to anybody and everybody. He loved his wife, children and grandchildren with all his heart and enjoyed spending time with them.

Loyd is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janis; a son Robert Englehorn (Patricia) of Boise; a son Michael Englehorn of Boise; and a daughter, Angela Green of Penn Valley, California. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jacob Englehorn (Jenny) of Boise, Elise Komma (Kalob) of Johnstown, Colorado; Alex Englehorn of Boise; Andrea Englehorn of Boise; Adam Englehorn, Moscow, Idaho; Ashlyn Englehorn, Salem, Oregon; Lauren Green of Meridian; Rachel Green, Humbolt, California; Courtney Green, Napa Valley, California; and one great-grandson, Hudson Komma (3 years old) of Johnstown, Colorado. Loyd is also survived by one sister, Shirley, of Colorado Springs, Colorado, a brother (Wayne) of Caldwell, Idaho, an uncle, Don Basey (Dorothy) of Marsing, plus several cousins.

Loyd was preceded in death by his Father and Mother.

Services will be held on Monday, February 9, 2015 at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel at 11:00 a.m.
