Obituary

Lee Ray Mickelson, 85, died on Monday, July 21, 2025 in Boise, Idaho.

Ray was born on June 14, 1940 to Leo and Helen (Greenwood) Mickelson in Jerome, Idaho.

He attended Jerome High School and graduated in 1958. He went on to receive his Political Science degree from Boise Jr. College and his Masters in Planning from the University of Northern Colorado in 1976.

Ray married Roberta Ward on June 26, 1960.

He worked for the city of Boise as a planner and also worked at the Idaho Transportation Department as a State Planning Engineer. He retired in 1995.

Ray’s hobbies included fishing, hunting, tying flies, and bee keeping. He enjoyed toast masters, his garden and caring for the house. His favorite foods included pineapple upside down cake and fried oysters.

Ray is survived by his wife, Roberta, of Boise; his son Matt (wife, Liz) Mickelson, of Sagle, Idaho; his daughter Shannon (husband, Greg) Griffin of Boise; grandsons, Curtis, Josh, and Zach; granddaughter, Sarah; great granddaughter, Ophelia; and great grandson, Oliver.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at Faith Community Bible Church.
