Joyce Page Murphy Swensen age 84, passed away Monday February 28, 2011. Joyce was born September 9, 1926 to Willis D. Page and Anna E. Christensen Page in Grace Idaho.
Joyce was born in Grace, Idaho, attended Grace High School (Class of ‘45) and attended Utah State University in Logan, UT. She married Gus Murphy in Salt Lake City and together they built a loving family beginning with the birth of daughter Joanna, followed by Peter, Nancy, Bill and Michelle. Joyce worked for many years at Utah Power and Light. The adventures at the old Murphy ranch in South Jordan have provided an endless source of funny family stories.
Later in Joyce’s life a new chapter began when she moved to Boise and married a childhood friend, Willard Swensen of Grace, Idaho. The two of them were together for just a few special years before she lost him and once again started over.
Joyce was a beautiful woman with a quick wit with a playful sense of humor. She loved to laugh and make others laugh, and was able to do so through both the good times and hard times. Grandma Joyce’s home was the family sanctuary, the place where everyone was always welcome, safe, and surrounded with unconditional love (as well as a fair dose of teasing). Birthdays and holidays always meant a celebration at Grandma’s.
She was preceded in death by her father, Willis D. Page, mother, Anna Christensen Page, sister Carol Lloyd, and beloved daughters Joanna Murphy and Nancy Bouttier-Bowers. She is survived by her loving children, Michelle Murphy Barsness (Jeff), Peter Murphy (Elly) and Bill Murphy (Kim); sisters Beverly Heinze, Sharon Galler, Paula Dee Davis (John); grandchildren Melissa (Andy), Jonathan, Marianna, Jaqi, Ashley and Shawn. Her humor and warm heart will also be missed by nephews, nieces, cousins and last but not least her grand dogs.
The family deeply appreciates the love and support given over the years by her caregiver-friends. A viewing will be held Friday evening March 4, 2011 from 4-8 pm. Flowers/condolences can be sent to Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel. . Funeral services will be held 10:00 am, March 5, 2011, at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave, Boise ID.
