Joan E. Lynskey Schoonover

Joan Elizabeth Day Lynskey Schoonover, 99, of Boise, died on November 4, 2025 at her home.

She was born on March 19, 1926 in Grinnell, Iowa to Emily Thomas Day and Frank Day. When she was a small child she moved with her parents, two sisters and a brother to Sigourney, Iowa where another brother was born. The family then moved to Seymour, Iowa where another sister was born. They lived in a two story house by the railroad tracks and the town was across the tracks. Joan started school when she was five years old. Her dad was a farmer and her mother kept the house. The family raised a garden and her mother canned everything that was raised. They had a cow for milk and cream and her dad also raised rabbits for food and her mother raised canaries that she sold. Joan remembered her mother taking the kids gooseberry picking and then she paid them 1 cent a quart for stemming them. She also remembered an old washing machine that the children pulled a handle back and forth to make the agitator work, making washing so much easier for her mother.

In February of 1934 the family moved to Idaho. Joan went to school at Lone Tree, Central Junior High School, and Nampa High School.

In 1946 Joan married Lowell G. Lynskey. He died on March 9, 1980. On April 5, 1986, Joan married Donivan G. Schoonover. He died on March 19, 2013.

Joan worked as a waitress for many years mostly at the Capri on Fairview in Boise.

Survivors include two daughters; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by the love of her life Lowell G. Lynskey, a son, and a grandson.

There are no services to be held at this time. Donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
