Jean Noh Betebenner passed from this life on August 30, 2025, at her home in Boise. Jean was born in 1934 to Ida Laird Noh and John William Noh living on a ranch in Artesian City, Idaho (south of Murtaugh). Jean was joined four years later by brother Laird. In 1943, the family left the ranch moving to Kimberly, Idaho. After graduating from Kimberly High School in 1951, Jean attended Idaho State University for a year and then worked at Twin Falls Bank and Trust. She moved to Boise and worked for a bank for several years. From 1977 to 2001, she was Office Manager and Secretary to the Regional Manager at Idaho Vocational Rehabilitation.
Jean married Harry Edward (Bud) Betebenner, Jr. in 1971. They enjoyed life in Boise especially attending Boise State Football games. They did a fair amount of traveling visiting the Hawaiian Islands, Greece, Turkey, New Zealand and the Caribbean. Jean loved movies (especially attending the Flix with Carolyn), walking the greenbelt, music (Frank Sinatra was a favorite), reading, and her friends. She was kind, generous and fun.
Soon after Jean retired in 2001, Bud became ill. She took care of him until he passed away in 2011. A few years later, Jean courageously adjusted to losing most of her eyesight due to glaucoma and other eye problems. Listening to recorded books from the Idaho Talking Book Service, doing crossword puzzles (with someone reading the clues and filling in the squares), and listening to Boise State football and basketball games became her main occupations.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents John and Ida Noh, her husband Harry E. (Bud) Betebenner, stepson Brad Betebenner, stepson-in-law Bill Roberts, brother-in-law George Betebenner and three sisters-in-law and their husbands Marie and Harry Candaux, Catherine and Bill Conn, Margaret and Marvin Bryant.
Jean is survived by her brother Laird (Kathleen) Noh, three stepdaughters Christine Roberts, Deb (Mike) Mohrman, Stacie (Dan) Bofenkamp, sister-in-law Sharlene Betebenner, nephew John (Julie) Noh, niece Susan (Scott Williams) Noh, grandnephew Andrew Noh cousins Carlynn Noh, Joyce Noh, Dan Laird, and Vickie Laird, four step-grandchildren Ann (Joe) Adams, Katie Mohrman, Jesse and Molly Betebenner and their mother Lisa Yerkovich, two step-great-grandchildren and several step-nieces and step-nephews.
When Jean first lost her sight, she received wonderful assistance from friends and caregivers Kate, Margaret, Tammy and Theresa. As Jean became less independent, she had the devoted care team of Felisha, JaNeisha and Sarah. With loving kindness they kept Jean’s life enjoyable. We are grateful for their skill, devotion, compassion and love.
A gathering for “Remembering our Jean” will be held at 11:00 am on September 24 at Smoky Mountain Restaurant, 415 East Parkcenter Blvd, Boise.
