James Alvin Dale passed away on May 14, 2026, in Coeur D Alene, Idaho. He was predeceased by his parents James Edgar Dale and Helen Grace Sturm, his wife, Marjorie Anne Dale, and his siblings Vivian Altman, Wilbur Dale, Vadna Sanders, Ione Adolf, and Larry Dale.
He is survived by his brother, Jerry Dale, sons James Lewis Dale (Sandra) and Mark William Dale, and grandsons James, John, and Hudson Dale. He is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
James was born in Enterprise, Oregon, on April 14, 1935. In his early years, he lived in a 3-room cabin with his parents, older brother, and three older sisters. The cabin had no running water and a 3-hole outhouse was suspended over the creek out back. The family moved to McMinnville, Oregon, in 1949. He graduated from McMinnville High School in 1953. After high school, he attended Eastern Oregon College in LaGrande, Oregon, and earned a Bachelor’s degree in education. He met Marjorie Anne Batty through mutual friends in LaGrande during college. They were married on August 12, 1961. He later earned a master’s degree in education. He was a school teacher in Newburg, Oregon and then in Valsetz, Oregon. He moved into school administration in 1973 by taking a job as junior high school principal in Brookings, Oregon. While in Brookings, he joined the Brookings-Harbor Christian Church and played a significant role in growing the church out of the VFW Hall across the street from the high school and into a new building on 5th street where it still meets today. He later moved in 1983 to Oakland, Oregon, after taking a job as grade school principal. He was superintendent of schools in Harrisburg, Oregon. He retired from education in 1995. He was also an active Freemason achieving the 33rd degree of the Scottish Rite. In retirement, he spent the next few years traveling the USA with Marjorie and then they relocated to Boise, Idaho, to be close to the grandkids.
Through his journey of life, he touched many lives with his wisdom and humor.
As James and his wife, Marjorie, wished to be put to rest together, a service for both of them will be announced at a later date.
Marjorie Anne Dale passed away on January 10, 2025, in Boise, Idaho. She was predeceased by her parents Lewis Clinton Batty and Edith Nora Batty, and her siblings Clinton Jackson Batty, Joseph Franklin Batty, and sister Linda Lee Leggett.
She is survived by her brother, Lewis Clinton Batty Jr., sons James Lewis Dale (Sandra) and Mark William Dale, and grandsons James, John, and Hudson Dale. She is also survived by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Marjorie was born in Hardman, Oregon, on November 21, 1937. Her early years were spent on cattle ranches in central Oregon. She graduated from high school in Monument, Oregon, in 1955. After high school, she moved to LaGrande, Oregon, with her parents and worked as a line cook and waitress. She met her Husband, James, through mutual friends in LaGrande. She moved to Seattle, WA, and worked as a bookkeeper for the Kenworth Motor Company until she was married. She married James on August 12, 1961. Shortly after getting married, they moved to Valsetz, Oregon, where she processed payroll for Boise Cascade Corp. When they moved to Brookings, Oregon, she processed payroll for Westbrook Corp. in Smith River, Ca. While living in Oakland, she worked in the medical billing department at the hospital in Roseburg, OR. She retired in 1995 and spent the next few years traveling the USA with James and then they relocated to Boise, Idaho, to be close to the grandkids. For many years, James and Marjorie were camp hosts at Val Vista RV Resort in Casa Grande, AZ. Marj loved this job, as it was a never-ending stream of people new people to meet and get to know every year.
Affectionately known by many as “Marj in Charge”, she lived well, laughed often, and loved deeply.
As Marjorie and her husband, James, wished to be put to rest together, a service for both of them will be announced at a later date.
