Helen Kathleen Skalsky

January 23, 1936 — May 2, 2026

Boise

Helen Kathleen Skalsky, better known as Kathleen or Kathy to those who knew her well, passed away Saturday, May 2nd, 2026, at the age of 90, surrounded by her family.

Kathy had a strong belief in our Lord, God, and is now at home with her Husband, Loren Skalsky, son, Mark Skalsky, and parents. Kathy was born to adoring parents, William and Helen Booth, on a record-breaking, cold day, January 23rd, 1936, in American Falls, Idaho. She was an only child until the age of eight, when her brother William Booth arrived.

Idaho was her beloved home for most of her life, leaving only for a short time, as a child, when her father took a job in the shipyards in California during WWII, and for seven years when she and her husband moved with Idaho Power to Hells Canyon, Oregon. She was a resident of Nampa, Idaho, from the age of 10 until she married and moved to Boise, Idaho.

Kathy married Loren Skalsky at the age of 19, on November 25th, 1955. Her first son, David, was born on October 4th, 1956, followed closely by twins, Mark and Lori, born May 12th, 1958.

Kathy was an active member of her church, Whitney United Methodist, was an avid reader, and loved dogs. She often said that she would rather spend her time around dogs than most people, and that if she had had it her way, she would have rescued all dogs in need.

Kathy had many close friendships throughout her life, one spanning 80 years. She was an active PEO member from the age of 19, helping the organization provide educational opportunities for young women.

Kathy is survived by her loving brother, Bill Booth, with whom she traveled to Europe, attended football games, and had a truly special bond. She is also survived by her son and daughter-in-law, David and Elona Skalsky, and daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Doug Davis. Kathy held her four grandkids close to her heart and was able to enjoy a close relationship with all four, and later their spouses, throughout their lives. She was also blessed to spend the last 11 years of her life with her four great-grandkids. A testament to her kind and loving soul is how deeply the bond between her great-grandkids and her was formed, each of the four loving to spend their time with her.

Kathy will be greatly missed, but was ready to move on to the next stage and is now surrounded by those who went before her, looking down on those she left behind.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Celebration Pavilion in Julia Davis Park (near the paddleboat pond at the intersection of Myrtle and Broadway) on June 28th, 2026 from 12:30-1:30. All are welcome to come and join her family and friends, share stories and celebrate her life.
