Helen Elaine Hendren Copple-Williamson

Helen Elaine Hendren Copple-Williamson, age 92, of Boise, Idaho, passed away at home on May 29, 2016. Born August 5, 1923 in Salt Lake City, Utah, she moved to Boise as a child with her mother Aleen Hendren and her younger brother Robert. She attended Boise schools, graduating from Boise High School where she was on the debate team, beginning a life-long love affair with words. Helen attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating in 1946 with a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, the natural outgrowth of her passion for the written word, her insatiable curiosity and zest for life.

Helen began her grand adventure in 1949 when she married the love of her life, Robert Hugh Copple of Okanogan, Washington, with whom she had two children, her daughter Aleen and her son Brian. In their 46 years together, Helen and Robert built two homes, ran their dogs in retriever trials, snow skied in the winter and water skied in the summer, traveled extensively including Scotland, China, Sweden, Egypt, and Turkey, with many trips to Great Britain, especially Oxford’s library. As an avid reader, Helen surrounded herself with books, often reading multiples at time, packing at least one bag full for every trip, she explored every genre but loved poetry and whatever her family was currently reading. Always willing to share her thoughts and interests, Helen reviewed books on the radio for AAUW, volunteered as a docent at the Boise Art Museum, attended Broadway plays, and sent newspaper clippings to her family of anything she thought they might like. Helen was always gracious, kind and thoughtful whether hosting her PEO or bridge group, picking huckleberries or celebrating her joys in life, both great and small.

She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Hugh Copple, her son Brian Robert Copple and her brother Robert L. Hendren. She is survived by her daughter Aleen Copple Moulds, five grandchildren, Donald Robert, Michael Brian, and Aleen Sarah Moulds; and Cailtin Jean and Alexander James Copple, and a great-granddaughter.

The family would like to thank her ladies from Exceptional Caregivers for their wonderful support and kindness. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
