Gilbert L. Haskins

Gilbert L. Haskins, 87, of Boise, died Sunday, August 21, 2016 in Boise, Idaho.

Gilbert was born on May 23, 1929, in Pocatello, Idaho, the son of Clinton Haskins and Lola Linebarger.

Gilbert grew up in Kuna, Idaho until he enlisted in the Army Air Force at the age of 17. While stationed in Washington D.C., he met Dorothy Margaret Fanning and they were married on September 28, 1950 in Montreal, Canada. From this union were born three wonderful sons; Wayne, Steven and David. They celebrated their 65th anniversary on September 28, 2015.

During the 65 years, Gil and Dorothy enjoyed their travels to Alaska, Scandinavian Cruises, Taiwan, the British Isles and many more trips. They spent about 18 years enjoying being snowbirds in Arizona where they made many friends. Gilbert’s love for travel was insatiable.

Gilbert worked in the Caterpillar parts department of Western States Equipment Co. for 33 1/3 years. He retired in 1989, a few months after Dorothy had retired. This gave them many more years to enjoy travel and life together. Dorothy was his one and only love. Gilbert always put his family and many friends first. Gilbert worked hard to provide for his family and to make it possible for traveling during retirement. The many thousands of pictures of family, friends, and scenery are a result of Gilbert’s 65 plus years of his love of photography.

He is survived by his sons and daughters-in-law: Wayne and Sue Haskins, N. Las Vegas, Nevada, Steve and Penny Haskins, Cloverdale, Oregon, Dave and Jeris Haskins, Boise; brothers: Chuck Haskins (Sharon) Boise, and Gene Haskins (Nina) Hendersonville, N.C. Gilbert was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; his sister, Clare Woods; and his brother, Bert Haskins.

A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 27, 2016 at Morris Hill Cemetery. Friends may call at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Friday, August 26th from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m.
