Dr. Candice J. Krueger
I was born to June and Bill Krueger in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on January 24, 1946. Most of my growing up years were spent throughout the United States as my father was an Air Force pilot. I started my schooling in England with fond memories of the people and countryside.
Continuing my education, I received my undergraduate degree with a BA in English from what is now the University of Northern Colorado then taught for 28 years, mostly in Idaho. I then went on to get my MA in Curriculum and Instruction from Boise State University and eventually received a PhD in Education from the University of Idaho. The last 16 years of my career I was an assistant principal at Mountain Home High School and Timberline High School in Boise.
When I wasn’t teaching, I was camping, kayaking, hiking, or mountain biking with my dogs. At St. Luke’s, I volunteered with my therapy dog, a Golden, for 15 years and later with my Border Collie mix for 3. It has been such a wonderful experience.
I love nature and being outdoors; I was able to travel to New England in the Fall to see the colors as the leaves changed. My go-to states were Vermont and New Hampshire. The trips getting there were filled with such natural beauty. I also visited many National Parks throughout the states.
I leave behind my brothers Craig (Casey Blumenthal) and Scott (Brenda), my niece Katherine Lambert (Daryl) and nephew Scott (Charlotte Dugoni) as well as my dogs, Gulliver and Oakley. Also, my best friend Darcy Simpson (Rene’) who has been on this journey and taken care of me from the beginning of the ovarian cancer diagnosis. I cannot say enough good things about Dr. Turner and his staff at St. Luke’s Gynecology Oncology, especially the ever-positive Tia. St. Luke’s Hospice has been equally as wonderful, all such kind, caring people. I have truly been blessed and loved every minute of my life.
A special thanks to Alden-Waggoner Funeral Home for the wonderful care they’ve provided. There will be no funeral nor celebration; my ashes will be scattered. In lieu of flowers or donations, I ask that you simply be kind to one another.
