Dorothy died March 6, 2011 in her apartment at Willow Park Assisted Living in Boise.

Dorothy was born on April 6, 1919 in New London Connecticut, the second child of Roger and Sarah Hodsdon. Her father was a naval officer and so she and her older sister, Betty and younger brother Roger traveled across the country many times with their mother to different duty stations. Dorothy and her sister went to five different high schools. Dorothy graduated from the University of California in Education. She spent most of her teaching career in the Monterey California School District. She and her sister were exchange teachers in England from 1957 to 1958.

Dorothy was a bit of an adventurer. She learned to fly and solo at a young age. She enjoyed camping in the Sierra Nevada mountains and walking on the beach near her Carmel home when she taught in Monterey. She and her sister loved to play golf especially after they retired. She retired in the mid-seventies and she and Betty volunteered on many committees and organizations. She was a docent at the San Jose Historical museum for 25+ years leading tours and working in elementary schools taking programs about early California history to the classroom. She was also very involved at St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church in Saratoga, CA. where she was extremely active with the Echo Shop Thrift store. She was active with PEO, Delta Kappa Gamma and a committed Democrat.

She was preceded in death by her mother and father. She leaves behind her sister Betty Brown with whom she lived for the past 40 years, her brother Roger and his wife Jan of San Jose, Ca.; two nieces, Anne Swensen (Dan), grand nephews Johan, Kristofer, Nicholas in Sweden; Kim Law in Chico, CA., two grand nieces Megan, Bailey; nephew Bill Brown (Laurie) of Boise; Mary Brown of Boise; two grand nieces Carrie Cohen, (Scott) of Portland OR., and Erin Saldin (Rob) of Missoula, MT., and a great grand niece, Dehlia May Cohen, 10 months.
