Chow Fung

Chow Fung, 91, of Boise, passed away on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at home surrounded by his Family.

Chow was born on July 23, 1932, in Xinhui District, Guangdong Province, in the People’s Republic of China. He was the youngest son of Fung Jiansheng and Ng Dongping. He had two older sisters, Fung Yung and Fung Shun. He left China for Hong Kong in 1950 at the advice of his mother, due to the rise of communism. He then immigrated to Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia in 1956, where he met and married Rosa Ching in 1965, in Cartagena, Bolivar, Colombia. They had five children, one daughter, Clemencia, and four sons, Sergio, David, John, and Pablo. In December 1984, he immigrated with his whole family to the United States and landed in Boise, Idaho, where he worked at Shang Hai Restaurant in Nampa, Idaho before they owned and operated the Orient Inn Restaurant in Boise, Idaho. Chow and Rosa had been married for 33 years before she passed away in 1998. Chow remarried in 1999 to Xiao Huang.

He is survived by his current wife of 24 years, Xiao Huang of Boise, Idaho; his five children, Clemencia Herdegen (Danny) of Boise, Idaho, Sergio Fung (Jessica) of Boise, Idaho, David Fung (Gladys) of Eagle, Idaho, John Fung (Huici) of Boise, Idaho, and Pablo Fung of Boise, Idaho; his five grandchildren, Brandon Fung of Meridian, Idaho, Ethan Fung of Eagle, Idaho, Kylie Herdegen of Boise, Idaho, Troy Herdegen of Boise, Idaho, and Oliver Fung of Boise, Idaho; and his nephews and nieces of Boston, Massachusetts, Hong Kong, and the People’s Republic of China.

Chow was preceded in death by his first wife, Rosa Fung; his sisters; his parents; and other relatives.

A viewing will be held in the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel, Boise, Idaho on Saturday, August 19, 2023, at 8:00 A.M., followed by a funeral service at 9:00 A.M., officiated by the Rev. Chris Santaguida, Living Hope Bible Church.

Interment will follow in the Cloverdale Funeral Home Cemetery, 1200 N Cloverdale Road, Boise, Idaho.

A Celebration of Life will be held in the China Grand Buffet Restaurant at 11:00 A.M., 10498 W Fairview Avenue, Boise, Idaho.
