Larry Hinderager was born on September 2, 1934, in Great Falls, Montana to Charles and Alice Hinderager. He grew up on a cattle ranch / dry farm, on the Bootlegger Trail, just north of Great Falls, an upbringing that instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard work and the outdoors.
In his youth, he felt the hand of God touching his heart and placed his trust and confidence in God’s leading beginning at age 11. He continued faithfully and it remained his primary focus to the time of his death. He had many privileges and often expressed his appreciation for being a part of an eternal family where love is the banner.
Larry graduated from Great Falls High School in 1952 and moved on to pursue a formal education in Chemical Engineering at Purdue University in Lafayette, Indiana.
Larry met Eliza (Liza) Robinson while she was finishing her nurses’ training in Great Falls. Their first date was horseback riding. They were married on his 20th birthday; a marriage that spanned 71 years and was built on a foundation of mutual love, devotion to their family, friends, country and shared faith.
Larry’s professional career began on March 1, 1956, with the Olympic Research Division of Rayonier Inc in Shelton, Washington. It was here that he took flying lessons at the Davis Flying School, sparking a passion for aviation that he would pursue for many years.
In 1957 the family moved to Las Vegas where Larry worked for the American Potash & Chemical Corporation and enjoyed the contrast of the high dry desert.
While on a trip passing through Pocatello, Idaho in 1964, he stopped by the Simplot plant for a tour and agreed to fill out an application at the end of his tour. When the company later offered him a job, he accepted. He very much enjoyed his tenure with Simplot, getting to know the fertilizer and mining businesses and developing lifelong relationships. He held various positions throughout his career and on August 31, 1998, just shy of 34 years, he retired.
Larry was known as someone who worked hard and played hard. In 1973, he and Liza moved to a small farm in Blackfoot, Idaho, getting reacquainted with their farming and cattle roots.
Over the years, Larry had many interests. He enjoyed photography and developing pictures in his dark room. He kept active, enjoying snow skiing, flying, fishing, boating, snowmobiling and spending time at their cabin in Island Park. In more recent years, he and Liza would spend a few weeks during the winter months in Arizona, riding side-by-sides through the desert and becoming friends with other Snowbirds.
Larry passed away on December 26, 2025. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Alice Hinderager; his sister, Bonnie Reynolds; and his grandson, Ryan Hinderager.
He is survived by his wife Liza, of Nampa, Idaho, children Linda Sabel of Pocatello, Idaho, Doug (& Kathy) Hinderager of Nampa, Idaho and Marc (& Louise) Hinderager of Cowra New South Wales Australia, 8-grandchildren, 6-great grandchildren and a wide circle of dear friends.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 PM on January 9, 2026, at the Alden-Waggoner Funeral Chapel in Boise, ID. Viewing will take place prior to service beginning at 2:30 PM.
