Bethel Roark

Bethel Roark left this earth to meet back up with Al on June 9, 2016 with her two daughters by her side. She was born in Boise August 22, 1930 to Roy and Retha Castor. Bethel attended grade school at Pleasantview School on Beacon Light Road in Eagle and graduated as class Valedictorian of Eagle High School in 1948. Bethel was so beautiful but she was a farm girl and could operate or drive any farm machinery or vehicle at a very early age.

Bethel married the love of her life, Albert Roark, on August 11, 1948 and they were married for 63 years. She worked as a billing clerk for Fletcher Oil for three years and Syms York for a year before starting their family. She began working for the Boise schools in 1960 as an elementary school secretary. She worked at Garfield and Hawthorne schools for nine years, then at Taft school for nine more. During all this time, Al and Bethel were owners of the Viking Car Wash, the Viking Motel and the Viking Apartments. Even though they had full time jobs and businesses, we went camping, boating, fishing, hunting, you name it, almost every weekend. I don’t know how they did it all but we absolutely had a “fairy tale” childhood!

After their retirement and sale of the businesses, they spent the winter and worked the National Date Festival in Indio, CA for twenty years. They worked there with many lifelong friends from school and made so many new friends along the way.

Bethel fully enjoyed her life with many hobbies: gardening, crocheting, reading, word puzzles, oil painting, playing her beautiful Lowry Organ, and most of all, she enjoyed her kids, grandkids and great-grandkids.

Bethel is survived by her two daughters: Teresa (Greg) Greene and LaMoyne (Terry) Wingate, her sister Bonnie (George) Marko, 5 grandkids: Crystal Obstarczyk, Shari (Tim) Wheeler, Darcie (Chad) Norton, Trisha (Cody) Wolfenbarger and Travis Wingate, great-grandkids: Haley, Dylan, Chase, Sam, Charlee, Allie and Isaac, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Retha and Roy Castor, husband Al Roark, a baby daughter, her brother Richard Castor, and a son-in-law Terry Fisch.

Bethel chose to have a graveside service at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery where she will be re-united with her only love Al, on Friday 6/17/16 at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Luke’s Children’s Hospital, 190 E. Bannock St., Boise, ID, 83712, or the Make-a-Wish Foundation, 310 W. Idaho St., Boise, ID, 83702.

We’ll miss you so much, Mom, but we know you’re at peace and back with Dad.
