Amy Gerla

Amy Lorraine Gerla was called to heaven, on Saturday, October 16th, 2021, at her home in Boise, Idaho.

Amy was born on December 19th, 1931, in Kelliher, Minnesota to Axel N. Bergstrom and Claudia T. Bergstrom who preceded her in death. Amy was one of 15 children. She graduated from Omak Senior High School in 1949 where she met and married Daniel Robert Gerla on September 1st, 1950. They started their family in June of 1951 and had 7 children. Amy and Daniel pastored a church in Twisp and Omak Washington before moving to Nampa, Idaho in 1962 where Daniel finished his education at Northwest Nazarene College. They continued in ministry at Nampa First Assembly before moving to Eagle, Idaho and attending Central Assembly in Boise. Her husband Daniel preceded her in death on December 31st, 1981.

Amy continued ministering in churches after Daniel’s passing, keeping their legacy going until she retired from full-time ministry at the age of 85. Amy then attended Life Church and kept up with her home ministry by writing letters to encourage and lead people to Jesus up until the time of her passing.

Amy is survived by her children, Portia Flynn (Layne), Mark Gerla (Fran), Cynthia Johnson (Ken), Gary Gerla (Gwen), David Gerla (Cheryl), Kenneth Gerla, and Kyle Gay O’Neil.

She was most proud of her family and loved all of her children, 16 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She loved working with flowers, baking for loved ones, and singing while playing the piano.

Amy’s Celebration of Life will be held at 2:30 p.m., October 23rd, 2021, at Life Church. 3225 E Commercial St, Meridian, ID 83642.
